Area Information
Starke is a comfortably small community of about 6,000 people that offers all the amenities of a larger city. The seat of Bradford County, Starke rests in a region that has avoided much of the urban sprawl in the southern part of the state.
In 1850, an act of Congress was passed which transferred all government lands and swamplands into the hands of the state of Florida for the purpose of internal improvement. This act encouraged railroad construction to the interior and allowed the state to be fully settled.
Starke is located next to a trio of lakes - Lake Sampson, Lake Crosby and Lake Rowell. These waters offer plenty of boating opportunities as well as fishing for such species as largemouth and sunshine bass, black crappie, bluegill and redear.
Golfers will want to try out the Starke Golf & Country Club, featuring 9 public holes designed by Roy Albert Anderson, one of Florida's most popular course architects. Keystone Heights Golf & Country Club boasts another 18 public holes located less than 10 miles from Starke.
The Starke Bike Festival is an annual celebration for motorcycle enthusiasts. It offers lots of live music, games, food, contests and more!
